Peking University, Mar. 20, 2010: Japan’s 9.0 magnitude earthquake on March 11 was the most powerful quake ever to hit the country. The following devastating tsunami ruthlessly swept over cities in the northern part. And the worst nuclear leakage in Japan even worsened the situation.

What are Japan’s rescue efforts to struggle against this calamity? What do the Japanese teach the world in this natural disaster? PKU students have been paying close attention to the latest situation in Japan and thinking about the lessons since the quake.

The Association of China-Japan Communication (ACJC) held a special film show in the classroom 204 of Classroom Building No.1 on the afternoon of March 20, to let students on campus know more about earthquakes. The room was almost fully seated and hardly any one left during the show. The presented film was the 2-hour-long NHK documentary “Emergency Reporting: The Earthquake in Northern Japan”.

The documentary was released on March 13, 2011. It offers an all-round report of Japan’s earthquake, covering the state of stricken areas, analyses of experts on earthquake, tsunami and nuclear energy, latest information about the Fukushima Daiichi plant and fires over the northern part.

Besides this film show, ACJC also organizes fundraising activities from March 21 to 23 in Shaoyuan Building No. 2 and Building No. 9 of the Zhongguanyuan Global Village, hoping to help those affected by the disaster.
