Peking University, April 21,2012: Russian Press Delegation, invited by the Information Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China, visited Peking University (PKU) on April 17.

The Delegation consisted of senior reporters of Russian media such as the RIA Novosti, the Tass, the Russian News, the Komsomolskaya Pravda and the Voice of Russia, etc. They visited China to prepare for the “Russia Tour Year” and the upcoming Shanghai Corporation Organization summit. Through visit to PKU, they hoped to further learn about PKU’s education, ongoing exchange programs with Russian universities, and especially the channels for Russian students to study at PKU. Professor Yang He, Vice Chairman of PKU Council, welcomed the delegation at Linhuxuan.

Yang briefly introduced PKU’s overall education, principles and the status quo. He said that over history, PKU had always been actively taking the responsibility to serve China’s development. To build a world-class university, Yang said that PKU had achieved some accomplishments. “PKU attaches great importance to exchanges with international counterparts, of course including Russian universities”, Yang added. The first inter-school exchange agreement with the University of Moscow can be traced back to 1987.  From then on, the two had maintained cooperation with each other. In 2002, a joint graduate school was built. In 2010, the Confucius Institute was established at the University of Moscow. Yang hoped that in the future, the two universities could further strengthen ties and cooperation, and provide more exchange opportunities for students.
