Peking University, Nov. 20, 2012: A lecture was held on November 13 at Zhongguanyuan Global Village, which aims at spreading the information of the European Framework Programmes for Research and Technological Development (R&D).

 

 

In this lecture, officers from the European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT) and the Science, Technology and Environment Section of EU’s Delegation to China introduced to the audience the status quo of the EU Framework Programmes.

 

The lecture also covered the information of the Seventh Framework Program (FP7) in 2013, the Horizon 2020 (to be initialized in 2014), and the EU Exchange and Communication Platform (EURAXESS) .

 

The aim of the lecture was to promote the cooperation between Peking University (PKU) and EU research institutions, which will create more exchange opportunities for PKU scholars. Through this lecture, the young scholars' understanding of the Framework Programmes has been deepened, and the future cooperation will be promoted.

 

Background Info:

 

The Framework Programmes for Research and Technological Development, also called the Framework Programmes or abbreviated FP1 through FP8, are funding programmes created by the European Union (EU) in order to support and encourage the research in the European Research Area (ERA). The specific objectives and actions vary between funding periods.

 

The Seventh Framework Program is the main program for European researches. This program began at 2007, and will last until 2013 with the total investment of 50 billion Euros. The four parts contained in this program are Cooperation, Ideas, People, and Capacities.

 

The upcoming program of EU Framework is Horizon 2020 with a total investment of 80 billion Euros, which is 46 percent more than that of FP7. It is supposed to last from 2014 to 2020. The main aims include "conducting excellent research", "leading industries", and "facing social challenges".
