Peking University, Beijing, Nov. 27, 2009: From Nov 16 to Nov 18, invited by Qatar Education Foundation, PKU President Zhou Qifeng attended the first World Innovation Summit for Education & WISE Awarding Ceremony in Doha.
World Innovation Summit invited more than 1000 participants from over 50 countries all over the world, who had discussions under the topic of Global Education: Working Together for Sustainable Achievements. The summit consisted of three panels under the themes of Education Diversification, Sustainable Development and Educational Innovation respectively. The first WISE Award was given to 6 winners for their brilliant practical work under the three themes.
President Zhou Qifeng Attended World Innovation Summit for Education
Invited by Dr. Abdullah bin Ali Al-Thani, Chair of World Innovation Summit for Education and Vice President of Qatar Education Foundation, President Zhou Qifeng became a member of the judging committee of WISE Award of educational innovation, and the only one from Asia out of nine. The judging committee included Nicholas Burnett, Assistant Director-General of UNESCO, Amy Gutmann, President of University of Pennsylvania and so on. 395 projects from the world competed for the award, and six of them stood out after strict judgment.
During the summit, President Zhou Qifeng attended a series of events, including the Opening Ceremony, Awarding Ceremony and the Panel on Educational Innovation, and met with Prof. Tim Unwin, Chair in Information and communication technologies for development (ICT4D) of UNESCO. As the only judge from Asia, President Zhou Qifeng introduced the situation of the innovations in information and communication technology in PKU and China, and took note of the development and operation of higher education and science and technology projects.
