PKU Prof. Wang Shizhou Won Humboldt Scientific Award

Peking University, Beijing, Mar. 9th, 2010: PKU Prof. Wang Shizhou won the Humboldt Scientific Award by Alexander von Humboldt Foundation, due to his outstanding achievements in the field of criminal law and his contribution to the international communication and development in the subject of criminal law. He also becomes the first expert who wins this prize in China.


Humboldt Award is issued by the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation, which aims to commemorate the great German scientist and scientific expedition traveler Alexander von Humboldt. It is one of the most famous foundations in the world. Started from 1972, the foundation has issued awards to global scientists and scholars and offered the opportunity for them to do researches in Germany for six months to nine months.


Prof. Wang Shizhou studied in Peking University Law School from September, 1978. In 1982, he received the Bachelor Degree of Law. In 1985, he received the Master Degree in Criminal Law. After he achieved the Master Degree from the Law School of UC Berkley in 1988, he came back to work in PKU. He did his researches in Germany, United States and Great Britain as Cleec Scholar, Humboldt Scholar and Wang Kuancheng Scholar. His study and research in China criminal law, comparative criminal law and international criminal law have gained high level of achievements and both domestic and international approval. His winning of the award is nominated by several German experts in criminal law.
