Peking University, Sept. 29, 2010: In conjunction with the international alumni’s celebration, the premiere of a new book, Yanyuan Liuyun: International Students of PKU at the World Stage, was held at Peking University (PKU) Chaitai International Center on September 28. This celebration has also started the series of activities on celebrating the 60th anniversary of new China's admission of international students and the 7th PKU International Cultural Festival as well.
This book, published by PKU Press, is mainly on the education history of international students since the establishment of the People’s Republic of China. It has shown the different developing stages of PKU international students’ education, and brought out the spirits progress of the PKU international alumni.
PKU President Zhou Qifeng’s speech
Prof. Zhou Qifeng, President of PKU, gave a speech at first. He mentioned that this year is the 60th anniversary of new China's hosting of international students and it was the honor of PKU to host the first few batches of international students who came to China. Over the past 60 years, PKU has trained batches of outstanding international students in the fields of international politics, economics, culture, and education, who have contributed much to the improvement of cultural exchanges and friendship between China and other countries. This celebration was an opportunity for PKU to promote the understanding between the alumni and the school further as well as the healthy and sustainable development of international alumni of PKU.
PKU Press President Wang Mingzhou’s speech
Then, Mr. Wang Mingzhou, Chairman of PKU Press, delivered his speech. He recalled the publishing process of the book from planning, editing, to finally publishing. He confirmed the historical and cultural significance of this book, and hoped to increase its circulation and population among the international students. He also encouraged the international students to broaden their horizons with China as a platform.
Thereafter, Prof. Zhou together with Mr. Wang, Mr. Mulatu Teshome and Mr. Guo Hongsheng, both the alumni of PKU, unveiled this new book.
On behalf of the PKU international alumni, Mr. Romulus Budura, former Romania Ambassador to China, thanked PKU for organizing the commemorative celebrations of the 60th anniversary of new China's hosting of international students. Mr. Lin Zhenjiang, Vice-Chairman of the PKU international alumni association, expressed his warmest wishes to PKU and thanked the teachers’ guidance sincerely on behalf of their Chairman Jaime A. Florcrug.
At the end of the celebration, the presented alumni went back to their faculties respectively together with the teachers and had interactive discussions with one another.
