Peking University, February 5, 2022: Chen Haohuang, a 2020 master student from PKU’s School of Electronics Engineering and Computer Science, and deputy president of the Foreign Exchange and Cooperation of PKU’s Youth League, actively participated in volunteer services for the Winter Olympics, overseeing test matches to ensure the games' smooth operation. His efforts to translate knowledge into practice and his passion for volunteering are vividly reflected not just in the stadium but also in daily life, for he engages extensively in student work, voluntary service and social practice during his undergraduate and postgraduate studies.

When asked about his volunteer work at the Winter Olympics, he admitted frankly, “I didn’t know that I would be assigned to the position at first. It was a pleasant surprise to be able to contribute my expertise to the test match.” Since the first test match was held during the school semester, more than one hundred PKU’s volunteers juggled their busy school schedules with event duties. Under such a situation, Chen and his team came up with a program to develop an optimal timetable for the volunteers, balancing their volunteer time with their academic schedules and ensuring that everyone participates equally.

When it comes to the reasons for volunteering, Chen mentioned that he witnessed other students put their expertise to good use in the fight against COVID-19. Now, it is finally his turn. As a volunteer, he is delighted to contribute to the Winter Olympics with his profession.
Chen also said,” Youths should be willing to contribute their social worth, and what they have learned should mirror the core values of social services." Without a doubt, Chen’s contribution to the games has displayed not only the professional skills but also the positive social values shared by Peking University volunteers.
