Peking University, February 22, 2024: The Alfred P. Sloan Foundation announced the 2024 Sloan Research Fellowships on February 20, 2024. Eight alumni from Peking University (PKU) have been selected as the 2024 Sloan Research Fellows for their achievements and potential in scientific fields.
Below is a brief introduction to PKU alumni who have been selected to receive the distinguished fellowships for this year:
Liu Zhenfei
Liu studied at the School of Chemistry and Molecular Engineering at Peking University from 2003 to 2007. An assistant professor at Wayne State University, Liu is dedicated to developing first-principles electronic structure methods.
Xu Suyang
Xu studied at the School of Physics at Peking University from 2004 to 2009. Xu is an assistant professor at the Department of Chemistry and Chemical Biology of Harvard University and his research includes topological materials and the electronic and optical properties of quantum matter.
Wang Xiao
Wang entered the School of Chemistry and Molecular Engineering at Peking University in 2006 and graduated in 2010. An assistant professor at the Department of Chemistry at MIT, Wang is dedicated to the development of new chemical, biophysical, and genomic tools.
Yang Yang
Yang received his bachelor's degree from the School of Chemistry and Molecular Engineering at Peking University in 2011. Yang is an assistant professor at the University of California, Santa Barbara, with his research focusing on copper-catalyzed asymmetric hydrogen functionalization of simple olefins.
Jin Chenhao
Jin attended the School of Physics at Peking University from 2008 to 2012 and is now working at the University of California, Santa Barbara. His research interests include two-dimensional materials and Moore's superlattices.
Jin Chi
Jin received his bachelor's degree from the School of Physics at Peking University in 2012 and is currently employed at Princeton University. His research focuses on machine learning theory, statistics, optimization, and game theory.
Shen Junliang
Shen studied at the School of Mathematical Sciences at Peking University from 2009 to 2013 and is an assistant professor at Yale University, focusing on algebraic geometry, especially moduli spaces.
Zhang Yahui
Zhang enrolled at Peking University in 2009 and received his B.S. degree in Physics in 2014. An assistant professor at the Department of Physics and Astronomy at Johns Hopkins University, Zhang studies condensed matter theory with a focus on strongly correlated physics.
The Sloan Research Fellowships, first awarded in 1955, recognize outstanding young scholars in various branches of science. In 2024, the fellowships have been granted to researchers and scholars in fields including chemistry, computer science, earth science, mathematics, neuroscience, and physics. Winners receive $75,000, which may be spent over a two-year term on any expense supportive of their research, according to the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation.
Congratulations to all Peking University alumni who have been chosen to receive the prestigious fellowships!
